Simple truth

Posted by on June 9, 2011

This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it’s out in the open.God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less. That’s what I’m working so hard at day after day, year after year, doing my best with the energy God so generously gives me.

Colossians 1:26-29, the Message
This simple yet profound truth struck me as i read it again this morning.  “Christ is in you, therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple.”  Wow, is it really that simple?  Can it be?  How often i forget this simple truth and how often i complicates life.
To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less.”  Again, so simple?  Everyday i pray, “God, show me your will today so that i may do what you want me to do”.  But he’s already shown His will; Christ.
We have a thorough picture of who Christ was and what he did while on this earth.  We can apply that to every situation today.  I sometimes think the  WWJD question is misguided, what if instead we simply as “What DID Jesus do”.  There are so many examples of His actions that it should be basic, in every situation i am expected to do what Christ did.   If Christ is truly in me, then how could the expectation be anything less?  And this is the great mystery revealed – maturing is becoming more like Christ in me until my life fully reflects his. God is love, Christ’s life exampled what that looks like in flesh, does my life?
